Food Pantry
The Hewitt United Methodist church just down the street from Unity Spiritual Center has a food pantry and we donate non-perishable food items to add to their pantry shelves. Each of us tries to bring in one canned or boxed item as we shop every week since these donations make a big difference in the lives of folks who count on this resource. Peanut butter, jelly, tuna, canned meat, rice, pasta, stew, dry cereal, canned fruit, black-eyed peas, box dinners and Kleenex are always needed.
We deliver them to HUMC.
Pet Food for Meals on Wheels Recipients
We collect dry dog and cat food as well as gallon plastic bags. The bags are filled with the dry food by volunteers at Meals on Wheels and distributed to the elderly folks served by that program who can’t afford the cost of food for their beloved pets.
We deliver the food and bags to the Meals on Wheels office.
Collecting Plastic Grocery Bags
We continuously collect plastic bags from our grocery purchases.
Caritas uses them to pack up groceries for folks using the food pantry.
"Love Bears All Things"
In February we bring in new or gently used teddy bears or other stuffed animals to be left in the sanctuary and “loved on” by folks each Sunday. At the end of the month we donate the animals to the Family Abuse Center. The animals and all the “love energy” that we have given them are to comfort children who have been affected by domestic violence. The animals wear a tag indicating they were donated by Unity Spiritual Center.
